How to put a Quest device in Debug Mode

In order to set up devices with ILP (Interactive Learning Platform), Debug Mode must be enabled on your device. Debug Mode is a setting within Developer Mode, developer mode must first be enabled on the device. This guide explains how to turn on Developer Mode and Debug Mode.

  4. Factory reset your device and set up with your Meta Developer Account

1) Sign up for an Oculus Developer Organization

In order to enable Developer Mode for your Quest device, you must have your Meta account associated with an Oculus Developer Organization.

​If you have already set up a Oculus Developer Organization

You'll need to create a Meta account for each Quest device and the Meta account to your existing Developer Organization

Sign up for for a Meta Developer Organization.



2) Download the Meta Quest app to your mobile device

You can download the Meta Quest app to any support iOS, iPadOS, or Android device.

3) Login to the Meta Quest app with your Meta Developer Account

In the Meta Quest app, login with your Oculus Developer account.


  • If you connected your Facebook account, choose Continue with Facebook
  • Otherwise, choose Continue with email



4) Factory reset your device and set up with your Meta Developer Account

In order to install the ILP Standalone Launcher on your Quest device, you must factory reset your device and login with your Oculus Developer Account unless you are already logged into that account.


If you are already logged into your Oculus Developer Account, continue to section 5.


If you are not already logged into your Oculus Developer Account, follow the steps below to factory reset your device:


  1. Put on the headset and press the power button until the Quest displays the power screen. Then choose "Power off"
  2. Once the headset is off, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons until your Quest turns on.
  3. From the USB Update Mode menu, use the volume buttons to navigate the menu and select "Factory reset". Once "Factory reset" is highlighted, press the power button.
  4. Using the volume buttons, select "Yes, erase and factory reset".
  5. Your device will erase all content and then reboot.
  6. Once it reboots you should follow the instructions in the headset to setup your device and pair with your developer account.


5) Enable Debug Mode in the Meta Quest app

Now that your device is logged into your Oculus Developer Account, you can now enable Debug Mode from the Meta Quest app.


  1. In the Meta Quest app on your mobile device, select Menu in the bottom right corner of the screen.


  2. In the menu that opens, select Devices


  3. Once your headset is displayed, select Headset Settings


  4. In the Headset Settings menu, select Developer Mode


  5. In the Developer Settings menu, toggle on Debug Mode




You're all done! You can now use the ILP Standalone Provisioner to install the ILP Standalone Launcher onto your device and register your device with your organization.
